The new Dodge Challenger SRT8 sports a 6.1L (426 cubic inch) HEMI with 425 hp @ 6,200 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm. The Challenger weighs in at 4,154 lbs. but hit 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. The quarter-mile arrived in 13.2 seconds at 107.5 mph. Base price is $40,145 for the SRT8, which will be limited to 6400 vehicles for its first year of production. If you're smart, you'll wait for the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8. Order up the "Track Pak" option and you'll get a louder exhaust system, more aggressive steering alignment with more caster, firmer springs and dampers, and a stiffer rear antiroll bar. Best of all, you'll also get the Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission.
I watched another test drive of the new Dodge Challenger. They noted a couple of drawbacks. Biggest complaint was the thickness of the pillar in the rear of the vehicle which causes a severe blind spot. Pretty scary when trying to back out of a parking spot or change lanes. And while the back seat is roomy, the pillar's thickness could potentially make backseat passengers a little uncomfortable since the position of the passenger window is further away. That said, still love this car!!
