Does anyone make a rear disk brake kit for a DANA 44 rear axle?
I have an old Sunbeam Tiger that has a DANA 44, but with cruddy drum brakes (and no parts avail). I see many kits for every type of axle but not the Dana 44 which has been used on a ton of cars and trucks. It is an old cat, but can't see to find something off the shelf or close that can be hacked into shape.

I believe some Jeep Wranglers and Cherokees use the Dana 44. A brake kit for these trucks can probably be made to work on your Tiger. Check out TeraFlex listed below.

Also, BritishV8 has an article about a brake conversion kit using a Wilwood kit for the Mustang.

Awsome finds, The British V8 site seems very promising, as well as the other for an off the shelf'er.

Thanks Tri-5

Stainless Steel Brakes makes a kit for a Dana 44 rear axle but unfortunately it is different than that in the Sunbeam Tiger. Perhaps it can be modified to work. I'd check with SSBrakes and discuss exactly what you have in the Tiger.

thanks, I'll have a look. I don't expect any to work straight away, but as long as they are based on a Dana 44 that will be a good starter.

Dale Akuszewski make a rear disc kit for the Tiger. You can find it at:

http://www.dalesresto.com/

Look under "Parts List".

Seen the kit, but it is not based on brake components that I am interested in using. I have spoke with him and his recommendation was to just change the housing ends to Ford 9" . He has done it on several tigers, he is just too busy to do it on mine. The change fixes the 2 piece axle issue on the Tiger and makes it easy to pick any of a number of rear brake kits. I think Dales kit also was for 13" wheels also, and I am going to run 15" so the Wilwood are my direction. Thanks!!

Yeah, seen them and talked with Dale a while back and decided (His suggestion) to just change the housing ends to ford 9" style and get one piece axles. Many of the kits he had also used odd brake components, but I think he did have one that used the calipers I like for rear brakes. When all said and done changing the housing ends is pretty much the best way to go for me since I'm not so concerned with keeping it original, but mostly looking originial.
