True or false, without cutting cats will this cause my engine light to come on?

My best guess would be false. The check engine light comes on when you alter the O2 sensors, which are before the cats (or around the cats, depending on how many you have). Anything you do after the cats shouldn't trigger the Check Engine light as long as you don't touch the O2 sensors.
