I have an 85 F150. Motor needs rebuild. I'm pretty sure its a 351w. I want to turn it into a mud truck / tow truck
Any suggestions on how I can get more power out of the motor? I'd like to be in the 400-500 hp and tq range but I don't want to spend a whole ton of money. I was looking into stroker kits but I'm not sure what is best for what I want to use the truck for. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

I think you have a couple of options here but the solution will depend on your budget and who will do the work. I'd love to hear from more people, but this is what I'm thinking... I'm all for a stroker kits. If you can get your block cleaned, inspected and machined, you can get a decent and affordable stroker kit for about $1000-1200. Keep in mind that you'll need to match it with heads (or porting), cam, intake, etc. Possibly an easier, but slightly more expensive solution would be to simply swap out the long block or even consider a crate engine. Ford, Coast High Performance, DSS Racing, Ford Performance Solutions and many other companies can sell you any of these products (rotating kits, short blocks, long blocks or complete engines). Shop around and I'm sure you can find something you'll really enjoy.
