I have to admit, I am part of a fuel-injection generation. Although I have modified and restored many cars over the years, my personal ride during high school was a 1989 Mustang GT that I shared with my brother. As my unofficial "hot rod school", we swapped out more parts on that Mustang than I can remember. I never even turned a wrench on a carburetor until years later while restoring a 1965 Mustang with a 289. Heck, I ended up converting that 289 to fuel-injection as well.
Finding a simple fuel-injection conversion kit just 10 years ago proved to be both expensive and complex. Today, there are several solutions that are cheaper, easier to install and more efficient than any previous system. There is one system in particular that caught my eye - EZ-EFI by FAST.

FAST (Fuel Air Spark Technology, a COMP Performance Group company) has been in the fuel-injection business for years and powers some of the fastest cars on the road today. FAST's flagship XFI system is used in Fun Ford competitions, NMCA, NMRA, ORSCA and more. The new FAST EZ-EFI system allows for easy carb-to-EFI conversion without out the need for custom programming.
The most important feature of this amazingly efficient system is the self-tuning operation that does not require chasing components, expert tuning experience or a laptop computer to tune. Simply hook it up, answer the basic set-up Wizard questions on the included hand-held display, and the system truly tunes itself. The FAST EZ-EFI Self Tuning Fuel Injection System is a totally complete system including the ECU, wide-band oxygen sensor, wiring harness, fuel injectors, fuel pump kit and other assorted components, including an innovative new 4150 throttle body.
Unlike many bolt-on EFI conversions, which usually max out at about 400 hp, the FAST EZ-EFI system is offered in 4 different injector sizes to accommodate some serious power levels. You can even add a power adder, such as a turbo or supercharger, and the system can be tuned accordingly.
The FAST EZ-EFI will be available in the summer of 2008 will start at about $1,900. That's less than most systems on the market and small price to pay for the quality and reputation of FAST.

--------------------- Update 12/01/2009 ---------------------

Hot Rod Magazine recently installed and tested the EZ-EFI on three different engine combinations with outstanding results.
The first test was a 350 small block Chevy with 10.0:1 compression, TFS 23-degree heads, a dual-plane Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap manifold, and a Comp Cams XE268 flat-tappet cam. On an engine dyno and with a Holley 750-cfm carburetor, it made 411 hp and 417 lb-ft. With the EZ-EFI, the engine fired up and idled smoothly. A carb will usually make a little more horsepower than an EFI system, but the EZ-EFI actually showed a slight increase to 414 hp.
I think the most impressive test was when they installed the EZ-EFI on a 1965 Chevy Malibu SS for some real-world street driving. The Malibu was equipped with a GM 290 hp crate engine and a Rochester square-bore carb. Hot Rod did a 100-mile drive to test gas mileage with the carburetor and the EZ-EFI. The carburetor was rich in some areas and lean in others, so they tuned it as best they could, and it got 13.2 mpg. The exact same route and speed with EFI brought back an astounding 18.5 mpg.
