If you’re like me, you’re just dying to drive the new Corvette ZR1, but can’t quite manage the $100k sticker price. Well, there is salvation. The 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR1 will join the fleet of GM vehicles at the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving later this month.
The Bondurant school will be offering a 2-day ZR1 “car control” course featuring all three of GM’s Covette lineup: C6, ZO6, ZR1. Although the fundamentals of the ZR1 Driving Course are still be finalized, expect it to be similar to the current
2-day ZO6 Experience from Bondurant. It starts with proper seating, hand placement and driver positioning. Exercises then include skid control, line techniques (reading the road) and accident avoidance. The course quickly advances to emphasize performance braking and handling techniques, including trail braking and throttle steer.
Starting with the Corvette C6 and working your way through to the ZO6 then the ZR1, the curriculum in this special program is geared to help you increase confidence, knowledge and awareness of the vehicle ability.
You will be able to test all your new skills and abilities out on the Bondurant 1.6 mile road course with an aggressive lead & follow with the instructors.
The cost is still being finalized, but expect the 2-day course to be about $3,395. This includes roughly 80% of your time driving. The Bondurant School has an excellent 3:1 student to instructor ratio for each course, so it’s best if you call them soon to
get on the interest list or make your reservation. Of course, if you’re one of the lucky few that plans on purchasing the Corvette ZR1, then this course will be available to you free of charge! As part of GM’s commitment to safety, each new owner of the ZR1 will have a chance to be professionally trained in high performance driving. It is GM’s intention to teach owner’s of the 638 horsepower ZR1 how to properly handle the car and its brute-force power. A certificate to the Bondurant School will be included with the purchase of each Corvette ZR1.
