NASCAR officials have just announced that both Ford and Dodge will be submitting designs of the Mustang and Challenger to be included in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for 2010.
First
reported by Fox Sports, the cars are expected to be closer to stock than any vehicle that the sanctioning body has run in the top two series since the dreaded term "aero-matching" rolled off spin-doctor tongues in 2000.
Although the new Sprint Cup car has proven to be safer and more competitive, fans have not embraced its design. Race attendance, souvenir sales and television ratings have significantly dropped since the vehicle change.
NASCAR is now hoping that car designs, such as the Mustang and Challenger, will bring fans back to the sport. This should also help to promote the brands of the manufacturers.
Although GM is ready to roll out their new Camaro into showrooms, there are no plans to bring the Camaro to NASCAR.
