Saleen has been on a roll lately. They launched the incredible Saleen / Parnelli Jones Edition Mustang, then the elite 25th Anniversary Sterling Signature Edition , the Dan Gurney supercharged Saleen and the entry level
Racecraft brand. Saleen is now adding to their stable of incredibly capable performance vehicles with the 2009 Dark Horse Extreme Edition.
The Dark Horse provides 620hp with 600 ft.-lbs of torque by way of a Speedlab
“SuperShaker” supercharger pumping 12 psi of boost to the aluminum 302 CID (5.0L) Modular, 3-Valve SOHC V8. Although rated at 620hp, the ram air effect of the SuperShaker should provide an additional 0.5 psi of boost and 20+ extra horsepower at speed, bringing the potential power to at least 640hp.
The new Saleen combines the power and handling of the Saleen S302 Extreme and the exclusive Heritage body style with interior and exterior cues found only in the Dark Horse. The Saleen serialized engine plaque, Navigation System and sport leather seating with Alcantara inserts adds to the exquisite style of this limited edition vehicle. The Dark Horse has a menacing look with its black paint, flat black graphics package, black chrome wheels, massive 305/35-20 rear tires and SuperShaker hood scoop.
“The Dark Horse provides the capability of extreme horsepower and the detailed look our customers expect. By merging the SuperShaker with the Extreme powertrain we have created a no compromise solution for people looking for both performance and classic Mustang looks,” states Marc Musial, Chief Powertrain Engineer.
The Dark Horse includes:
- Saleen Port Matched Series VI Integrated Screw type supercharger
- Forged aluminum pistons
- Forged steel connecting rods
- Forged steel crankshaft
- Full Racecraft suspension including the Gen 2 Saleen Watts Link
- 3.73:1 Saleen MaxGrip speed-sensitive, limited-slip differential

I was invited to the Saleen Dark Horse Press Event where Saleen’s CEO, Chris Theodore, was eager to tell me about the car and offer a thrill ride on the “Streets of Willow Springs” at Willow Springs International Motorsports Park.
Production of the $90,000 Dark Horse begins November 2008 and is limited to just 25 coupes, so you better hurry and contact
Saleen soon if you want one.
