The Ringbothers have done it again. The build team that brought you “Reactor” and “Razor” has unleashed their newest creation, “Afterburner,” an amazing 1964 Ford Fairlane.
Funny man and host of
CarCast Adam Carolla, was hilarious as he introduced Mike and Jim Ring then pulled the cover to unveil “Afterburner,” owned by Ken and Evelyn Smith of S&S Cycle.
“Afterburner” features a Roush 427IR crate engine featuring an 8-stack injection system putting out 560hp and 540 ft-lb or torque. The engine sends power through a Bowler AODE transmission actuated by MasterShift paddle shifters. Flowmaster was called on to handle the exhaust.
The suspension is custom built from late model Mustang components up front and a 3-link with panhard bar out back. “Afterburner” gets its stopping power from massive Baer brakes expertly tucked behind Forgeline wheels.
Looking at “Afterburner” you may not notice the subtle differences and modifications made to the body, but they are numerous. The roof was chopped one inch and all the glass was flush mounted. The hood (held in place by Ringbrothers billet hinges) is made of carbon fiber as well as the bumpers, side air intakes and rear five-piece spoiler. The entire underside of the car is skinned with aluminum for a smooth look. BASF mixed the custom “Afterburner Red” paint along with Mission Brown and Agent Orange accent colors.
The amazing interior, built by the
Ringbrothers and Upholstery Unlimited, features a full set of custom gauges from Classic Instruments and a killer entertainment system from Alpine. Climate control is from Vintage Air.
Congratulations to Ken and Evelyn Smith, Mike and Jim Ring, and the entire Ringbrothers team! Look for “Afterburner” at Goodguys shows around the country throughout 2010.
