Ferrari has just released the first official photos of its latest Grand Tourer - the Ferrari California. Known internally as the F149, the Ferrari California will be available exclusively as a convertible with a folding hard top. Similar to its Ferrari siblings, the California will sport an aluminum chassis and bodywork; however, a new V8 engine, mounted in a mid-front position for the first time in the marque’s history, will power the California.
Once rumored to be the next “Dino,” the Ferrari California will feature several innovations. In addition to its folding hard top, the California will include a 2+ seating concept to guarantee exception versatility of the use in the rear of the car. The California’s 4.3L V8 engine features direct fuel injection and a “flat” crankshaft. It generates more than 450 hp at 7,500 RPMs with a torque curve that enhances vehicle dynamics and launches the California from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds.

The new Ferrari V8 will be mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that boosts the car’s performance, improves ride comfort and reduces fuel consumption. The comfort is further enhanced by a new multilink rear suspension system. The Ferrari California is also equipped with the exclusive F1-Trac traction control system which made its debut on the 599 GTB Fiorano and has been further honed to suit the typical driving conditions expected for this new GT. Brembo brakes featuring carbon-ceramic disks as standard equipment guarantee superbly efficient braking.
